The armchairs of the "Progetti" line, designed by Umberto Asnago for the Italian firm Giorgetti, are distinguished by combining Italian modernism with impeccable craftsmanship, especially in the treatment of wood.
Umberto Asnago studied at the Art Institute of Cantù. After learning solid woodworking by experimenting in local carpentries, he began collaborating with Giorgetti in 1968 and soon became head of the Giorgetti Design Research Center. In the 1970s, the company began an intense process of industrialization and innovation that led to the expansion of its domestic and foreign markets. In 1987, the Giorgetti Design Research Center signed the Progetti collection, a series of sofas and armchairs characterized by a unique wooden armrest, which propelled the company into the ranks of Made-in-Italy ambassadors worldwide and contributed greatly to the Giorgetti brand Asiago left Giorgetti in 2006 to devote himself to design. He worked with many famous companies such as Penta Light, Arflex, Busnelli, Medea and Porada making pieces that bore his stamp. In 2011 he returned at Giorgetti and designed a new collection and In 2017, Asnago created the limited edition Pure Armchair to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Progetti collection. In 2019 he began a new collaboration with Frigerio for a complete and intriguing range of furniture elements with an able use of solid wood and leather covers.
