Side chair made in early 20th century Arts & Crafts style wood, with a turned spindle back and red velvet cushion.
The Arts and Crafts movement, associated with design and the decorative arts, emerged in Britain around 1880 and continued to develop until the outbreak of the First World War. This movement emerged as an idealistic reaction to the effects of industrialization on design, craft production and everyday life. Its followers advocated the revitalization of traditional craft techniques, promoting a return to simpler ways of life and an aesthetic and functional revaluation of domestic objects.
