DESCRIPTION

Attributed to HEINZ LILIENTHAL (Germany, 1927-2006).
Side table. c. 1970.

Measurements: 51x 162 x 162 x 62 cm.
This piece, made of solid wood with hand-embossed and patinated copper cover, presents a rich surface decorated with abstract geometric motifs, defined by engraved lines and volumes in relief. The material treatment and the plastic composition bring us closer to the distinctive style of Heinz Lilienthal (1927-2006), a German designer and craftsman whose work is characterized by the fusion of constructive rationality and artistic experimentation.
Trained in the post-war context, Lilienthal developed a practice that oscillated between functional design, mural art and applied sculpture, exploring the expressive possibilities of materials such as metal, stone and wood. Beginning in the 1960s, his work achieved international recognition for his sculptural treatment of surfaces and his ability to give everyday objects a symbolic and sensory dimension.
The table attributed here embodies the aesthetic and technical principles of his most mature production: a synthesis between craftsmanship and modernism, where the structural rigor of German design is combined with a material-geometric poetics of great visual force. In this sense, the work transcends its utilitarian function to stand on the threshold between furniture and the work of art, reflecting Lilienthal's aspiration to integrate art and life through matter and form.
