BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

TOBIA SCARPA (Italy, 1935) for B & B Italia, Mobilplast edition.
Two-seater "Coronado" sofa, 1966.
Upholstered in original black leather.
With publisher's label.
In very good condition.
Measurements: 73 x 155 x 93 cm.
Designed by Scarpa in 1966, the Coronado two-seater sofa reinterpreted in its aesthetics the classic English club sofa or Chesterfield sofa, with its generous, rounded shapes and fluffy appearance. It is distinguished by its cushions visually integrated into the structure and by a subtle capitonné.

This piece is an authentic vintage edition, manufactured in Spain by Mobilplast under the strict license and specifications of B&B Italia. It is an authorized production contemporary to the original Italian release.

Tobia Scarpa studied at the Faculty of Architecture in Venice, graduating in 1969. By that time Scarpa had already embarked on a brilliant career, collaborating with his wife Afra Bianchin since 1957 and taking part in various projects, as well as in the creation of the Flor firm in 1960. In 1964 the couple met Luciano Benetton, for whom they designed the first factory, the house and the chain of stores, also taking care of the company's image. From these years on, the couple will carry out important architectural projects in Europe and the United States, and together they will collaborate as designers with firms such as Eclisse, Flos, Magistretti, Casas, Groppion, etc. In 2000 Tobia Scarpa began teaching at the ClaDIS faculty of industrial design in Venice. Throughout his career, this designer has received important awards, including the ADI Golden Compass in 1970, the Golden Compass of Honor in 1979, the Resource Council Inc. in 1981, the Neocom Merit Award in Chicago in 1982, the First National Design Award in 1987, the Auszeichnung für Hohe Design Qualität in 1992 and the I'IF Industrie Forum Design in Hannover in 1992. Tobia Scarpa's work can currently be seen in leading design museums around the world, including MoMA in New York.
