DESCRIPTION
VITTORIO ZECCHIN (Murano, 1878 - 1947) for MVM Cappellin.
Dish, 1920s.
Murano blown glass.
Measurements: 7 x 58 cm.
Dish realized in blown glass of blue tonality whose bottom adopts floral forms while the wing is free of ornamentation. It is a characteristic model of Zecchin's production.
Vittorio Zecchin graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. Impatient with the realist culture of the late nineteenth century, he was quite attracted by the stimuli offered by the Venice Biennials he attended as he came into contact with symbolist research and the environment of the Viennese Secession. In 1914 he presented at the XI Biennale, along with the painter Teodoro Wolf Ferrari, some glasses made in the Barovier glassworks. After 1918 he specialized in decorative arts. From 1921 to 1925 he was artistic director of the company Vetri Soffiati Muranesi Cappellin Venini & C. for which he created classic pieces in clear glass with delicate colors; inspired by the sixteenth-century pictorial style of Venetian painters, these vases were the first examples of modern works in Murano glass. After the experience with Cappellin Venini, he continued, during the thirties, to dedicate himself to the creation of very refined glass, collaborating with various glassworks. Throughout his life he collaborated with the School of Glass Industry of Murano (in 1934) and the school of glassmakers "Abate Zanetti".
