BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

PAAVO TYNELL (Finland, 1890-1973).
Lamp 1994/3, 1940s.
Punctured brass.

As we see in this luminaire consisting of three flared bulbs, Tynell's style is distinguished by its elegance and simplicity, manifested in the frequent use of brass and glass with distinctive perforated patterns.

Finnish designer Paavo Tynell, whose training and experience included teaching metalwork at the Central School of Applied Arts in Helsinki (1917-1923), was a key figure in modern lighting as co-founder and chief designer of the Taito company (1918-1953). Under his leadership, Taito specialized in luminaires and collaborated closely with renowned architects such as Alvar Aalto. Tynell's style is distinguished by its elegance and simplicity, manifested in the frequent use of brass and glass with distinctive perforated patterns. His international prestige was consolidated by designing the lighting for projects such as the Parliament of Finland and the office of the Secretary General of the United Nations in New York, achieving great popularity abroad, especially in the United States during the 1950s.
