DESCRIPTION
Rationalist bench, ca.1960.
Black lacquered iron tube structure.
Teak wood top.
Measurements: 35 x 150 x 44 cm.
Classic example of mid-century design, with a strong rationalist and industrial influence. Its aesthetic is defined by the honesty of the materials and the absence of unnecessary ornamentation. The solid wood slats create a geometric visual rhythm and lightness.
The bench is low and elongated, emphasizing the horizontality typical of the architecture and interior design of the 1950s and 1960s. The straight legs, joined by crossbeams, ensure rigidity without adding visual volume.
The design bases its appeal on the tactile and visual contrast between the organic warmth of the hardwood and the black iron, which provides the industrial touch.
It is worth noting the similarities with Charlotte Perriand's designs: specifically her benches for the mining town of Cansado in Mauritania.
