DESCRIPTION
CARLO NASON (Murano, 1935), for Mazzega.
Table lamp LT226. Italy, ca. 1970.
Cylindrical base in smoked blue Murano glass and large shade in white opaline.
Condition: excellent vintage condition; slight signs of use.
Measurements: 40 x 38 x 38 cm.
Superb table lamp in hand-blown Murano glass, designed by Carlo Nason for the prestigious firm Mazzega in the seventies. This exceptional piece dialogues with the Venetian glass tradition while embodying the artistic sensibility of the Italian modern movement. The cylindrical glass base in a smoky blue tone is combined with an opaline glass shade, achieving a design that combines sculptural elegance and geometric purity. The play of transparencies between the glass and the opal diffuser favors a diffuse and warm lighting.
Carlo Nason comes from a family with a long tradition in the art of glass, historically linked to the Nason & C. workshop. Unlike his predecessors, Nason introduced a more experimental and avant-garde vision to lighting design, incorporating new forms, blowing techniques and aesthetic languages. During his collaboration with Mazzega in the 1960s and 1970s, he created some of the most innovative pieces in the firm's catalog, helping to position it internationally. His work is characterized by formal exploration, mastery of the blown glass technique and a sculptural sensibility that transcends the utilitarian.
