The constant presence of animals in Art Deco sculpture is no coincidence, but the result of a fascination with domesticated nature, organic geometry and exoticism of the time. In fact, Art Deco moved away from the excessive details of Art Nouveau to seek schematization and geographical simplification. Animals offered sculptors perfect natural silhouettes to be stylized.
