The A222 table, designed by Arne Jacobsen and Piet Hein (with Bruno Mathsson) for Fritz Hansen, is a side or coffee table with a distinctly Scandinavian and modernist aesthetic, characterized by its circular top of about 75 cm in diameter and approx. 47 cm in height, normally made of white laminate with an aluminum edge, and by its central metal base that opens into four satin-finished or chromed aluminum cross legs; its design is sober, functional and timeless, intended to provide visual lightness and stability, and is part of the series of tables inspired by geometric and mathematical principles promoted by Piet Hein, reflecting Jacobsen's philosophy of combining proportion, utility and elegance without unnecessary ornamentation.
The collaboration between Arne Jacobsen and Piet Hein for Fritz Hansen is one of the most interesting in 20th century Danish design, because it unites architecture and industrial design (Jacobsen) with mathematics and poetry (Hein).
The Danish company Fritz Hansen, founded in 1872, manufactures original, unique, functional and innovative contemporary design furniture. It manufactures its products at its facilities in northern Copenhagen, making each piece in close collaboration with internationally renowned designers and architects. Its collection includes the Egg and Swan chairs, the Series 7 chair, the Ant chair and the Oxford chair by designer Arne Jacobsen, as well as tables and armchairs designed by Danish designers Piet Hein and Poul Kjaerholm.
