DESCRIPTION
ANGELO MANGIAROTTI (1921-2012) for Skipper. Italy.
Console "Eros", 1970s.
Marble.
Measurements: 72 x 180 x 45 cm.
This spectacular "Eros" console, designed in the 1970s by Italian designer Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper, is one of the most emblematic pieces of sculptural marble furniture in 20th century Italian design. Executed entirely in stone, it stands out for the purity of its proportions and for an ingenious system of assembly without visible elements, a hallmark of Mangiarotti's work.
The tabletop, defined by two hollowed-out circles on the front as a graphic and structural gesture, rests on two conical legs that provide solidity and visual lightness at the same time. This combination of monumentality and technical precision makes the "Eros" model a true icon of the radical and architectural design of the decade.
Angelo Mangiarotti was a key figure of Italian modernism, renowned for his mastery of materials and his ability to transform stone and marble into contemporary forms of great sculptural elegance. His designs, halfway between architecture and object, are today highly coveted by international collectors.
Angelo Mangiarotti collaborated with numerous Italian industrial firms and received important distinctions, such as the Compasso d'Oro alla Carriera in 1994. His work is now part of the collections of international museums such as the MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
