DESCRIPTION
Rocking chair "H. C. Andersen" ; Denmark, 1850-1870.
Cast and polished iron.
Upholstered with Ralph Lauren fabric.
Measurements: 116.5 x 56 x 98 cm.
This mid-19th century Danish rocking chair, known as the H. C. Andersen Rocking Chair, is a notable example of historic cast iron furniture. Made between 1850 and 1870, it is notable for the solidity of its structure, as well as its comfort, unusual for pieces of this period.
Its name comes from the famous representation of the writer Hans Christian Andersen sitting in a rocking chair of this type, which has consolidated its association with the Danish cultural imaginary. The piece has been reupholstered with a Ralph Lauren fabric, an intervention that respects its classic character and provides a contemporary contrast.
