Designed in the middle of the 20th century by Severin Hansen for the Danish firm Haslev Møbelsnedkeri, this table is entirely made of rosewood, and reveals the heritage of the Danish cabinetmaking tradition, mainly in the appreciation of the material in its natural state. This warm and organic character of the wood is combined with a distinctly modern formal concept, very typical of Scandinavian design at this time, based on stylized, geometric and well-defined forms, without moldings or ornamentation. Thus, the tabletop is simple, and its lines are prolonged in the legs, which are narrower towards the base, visually lightening the design.
Danish furniture designer Severin Hansen is remembered for his table and desk designs, characterized by his classic mid-20th century Danish style. In the 1950s and early 1960s, his work was produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri, a furniture manufacturer located in the small town of Haslev near Copenhagen, as well as the Dutch manufacturer Bovenkamp. Hansen is also known for his collaboration with the Danish porcelain company Royal Copenhagen, which produced a series of hand-painted and glazed ceramic tables by artists such as Grethe Helland-Hansen and Nils Thorssen. Although little is known about Hansen's life, his designs are increasingly popular among design lovers, who hold him in high regard for his high quality.
