The Castore floor lamp, created by Michele De Lucchi and Huub Ubbens for the Italian firm Artemide, is presented with a white finish that enhances its refined aesthetics.
Its most distinctive feature is the spherical diffuser, which acts as an ethereal and balanced luminous volume. The light is distributed gradually, generating a harmonious transition between the intensity of the globe and the more subdued area of the shaft, giving a sense of continuity and elegance to the whole.
Michele de Lucchi studied at the Liceo Scientifico Enrico Fermi in Padua, and trained as an architect with Adolfo Natalini at the University of Florence, graduating in 1975. In 1973 he co-founded the architecture and design group Cavart, which promoted a radical design program through happenings, publications and seminars. De Lucchi also collaborated with Suerstudio, with Ettore Sottsass and Gaetano Pesce, and between 1975 and 1977 he worked as a professor of architecture at the University of Florence. In 1981 he co-founded the Memphis group and introduced geometric motifs in the cooperative's plastic laminates. He is currently represented in the most important design museums around the world.
