BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

ANGELO CORTESI (Italy, 1938) & SERGIO CHIAPPA GATTO for Kartell.
Conical wastepaper basket, 1989.
Plastic.
Signed inside.
Measurements: 80 x 44 x 44 cm.
The conical wastepaper basket designed in 1989 by Angelo Cortesi and Sergio Chiappa-Gatto for the Italian firm Kartell is a representative piece of the Italian design of the eighties. Made entirely of plastic, it responds to the material and technological research that characterized the brand in that period, when plastic was consolidated as a leading material in contemporary design.
Its conical shape, supported by a stable circular base, combines geometric simplicity and structural efficiency. The object stands out for its postmodern language, visible in its formal purity and the desire to turn an everyday element into a piece with its own identity. Some models incorporate a removable top ring, a detail that enhances functionality and facilitates daily use, reaffirming the union between design and practicality.
Angelo Cortesi and Sergio Chiappa-Gatto developed a collaboration focused on industrial design and experimentation with plastic materials, in line with Kartell's innovative philosophy.
