DESCRIPTION
Pair of armchairs; 60s.
Wood and rope.
In good condition.
Measurements: 90 x 58 x 63 cm (x2).
This pair of armchairs from the sixties is an eloquent example of the post-war modern ideology applied to domestic furniture, where structural rationality, material honesty and an organic sensibility inherited from both European functionalism and artisan tradition converge. Made of wood and braided rope, they present a formal and constructive purification associated with the Modern Movement.
The structure has quadrangular section legs, visible crosspieces and rectilinear arms that extend the horizontal line of the seat. The backrest and seat, made of woven rope, introduce a tactile and handcrafted dimension that softens the geometric severity of the wood. This hybridization between industry and craftsmanship was a constant in the 1960s, a time when design sought to humanize contemporary housing through warm materials and manual techniques, as opposed to the perceived coldness of tubular metal or emerging plastic.
