The LC3 model is one of the great icons of 20th century modern design. Conceived in 1928 as part of the "Équipement intérieur de l'habitation" program, it marked a decisive break with traditional furniture by turning the structure into a visible element: the chromed steel frame acts as an architectural frame containing the upholstered volumes.
From his first collaborations, Le Corbusier, together with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, approached furniture design from rational criteria and anthropometric studies, seeking a precise adaptation to the body and a new idea of modern comfort. After the impulse obtained at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris (1925), the trio developed fundamental pieces such as the LC1 (1928), the famous LC4 chaise longue (1929) and the LC2 and LC3 sofas, conceived to transform the serial production of contemporary furniture.
The LC3 is a synthesis of this research: rigorous proportion, pure geometry and generous comfort thanks to its independent seat, back and arm cushions. This edition, produced by Cassina, official licensee of the collection since 1965, features a chrome-plated tubular steel frame and red fabric upholstery.
The pieces of the LC collection are part of the permanent collections of institutions such as the MoMA in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, consolidating their status as absolute benchmarks of modern design.
A timeless classic whose aesthetic and conceptual validity remains intact.
