BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

GABRIEL ORDEIG (London, 1946 - Barcelona, 1994) for Santa & Cole.
Fonda Europa" lamp. 1980s.
Tubular metal structure with sewn parchment lampshades.

Designed for the Fonda Europa restaurant in Granollers, this lamp is one of Gabriel Ordeig's most emblematic creations. The piece articulates a suspended horizontal bar that holds multiple points of light topped by sewn parchment truncated cone shades, a characteristic material in his work. The rhythmic repetition of the shades generates a warm and enveloping illumination, combining industrial structure and artisanal sensibility.

The Fonda Europa exemplifies the refined and atmospheric language that defined the renewal of Barcelona design in the 1980s.

Born in London to a Catalan father and English mother, Gabriel Ordeig trained in the UK before settling in Barcelona in 1978. He developed an intense activity in interior design and lighting, standing out for his projects for emblematic bars and restaurants in the city. In 1985 he co-founded Santa & Cole, a fundamental company in the edition and diffusion of contemporary Spanish design.
