DESCRIPTION

AFRA SCARPA (Montebelluna, 1937 - Treviso, 2011) & TOBIA SCARPA (Venice, 1935), for DIMENSIONE FUOCO.
Complete fireplace set, Italy, 1970s.
In patinated iron and bronze, handles in solid wood.
With "BS" production mark on the finials.
In good condition, with light patina according to use and age.
Measurements: 56 x 100 x 32 cm.

Fireplace set consisting of screen, morillos and set of tools with support, made of patinated iron, bronze and wood. The design clearly reflects the characteristic language of Afra & Tobia Scarpa, based on constructive precision, geometric rigor and an architectural conception of the functional object.

The structure is organized from iron profiles with clean lines and carefully balanced proportions, where each element responds to a visible structural logic. The solid bronze details and wooden handles introduce a material counterpoint that softens the severity of the metal, a recurrent resource in the work of the Scarpa couple, who always sought a dialogue between industrial and natural materials.

Tobia Scarpa's beginnings were as a glass designer at Venini's Murano glass factory, until in 1960 Tobia and Afra, his wife, decided to open their studio. Among his clients, they counted the company Gavina, B & B Italy, Cassina or Meritalia. They received important awards, such as the Compasso d'Oro in 1969 and the International Forum Design in 1992. Their designs can be found in international museums such as MOMA, the National Museum of Design in New York, the Philadelphia Art Museum, the Louvre Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum, among other institutions.
