The Órbita coffee table, designed in 1986 by Gemma Bernal and Ramón Isern for BD Ediciones de Diseño, is an example of the collaboration between two of the most influential industrial designers in Spain in the second half of the 20th century. Under the Bernal/Isern brand, which they kept active from 1967 to 1999, both creators developed a work characterized by formal sobriety and functionality.
The Órbita table is representative of this approach: its top is made of root wood veneer, a noble material, while the base is made of solid concrete, an element that provides stability and a strong contrast. The most innovative aspect of this piece is its eccentric arm with a double swivel system, which allows the envelope to move independently of the base, offering multiple possibilities of use without sacrificing stability or aesthetics. This combination of materials and mechanical systems reflects Bernal and Isern's philosophy: a functional design designed to integrate naturally into everyday space.
Ramón Isern Falgueras, a renowned industrial designer, formed his first design team in 1967 together with Beth Galí and Gemma Bernal, thus beginning a career marked by innovation and technical rigor. Among his early successes was a hand shower that won a Delta de Oro, a recognition that underscored his ability to fuse design and utility. From 1973 to 1999, Isern worked closely with Bernal, focusing on diverse sectors such as furniture, home furnishings and audio equipment.
