The LC4 chaise longue, presented at the Paris Salon d'Automne in 1929, is one of the most emblematic designs of modern furniture. Conceived as a "resting machine", it responds to the principles of purism and functionalism, adapting to the ergonomics of the human body by means of a tilting structure independent of the base. Its innovative use of tubular steel and its formal refinement have made it an icon of 20th century design.
Le Corbusier, a key figure in modern architecture, developed with his cousin Pierre Jeanneret and designer Charlotte Perriand a new furniture language in keeping with contemporary living. This collaboration gave rise to some of the most influential pieces of 20th century design, characterized by the synthesis of functionality, technique and aesthetics. Today, her creations are part of major international museum collections and continue to be published by Cassina under official license.
