Pair of brutalist chairs from the 50's, carved in solid wood. The pieces stand out for their rounded and almost sculptural presence. The seat, with its organic and slightly concave surface, preserves the traces of manual labor, emphasizing a lively texture that contrasts with the rhythmic regularity of the vertical bars of the backrest.
Brutalist furniture, developed mainly between the 1950s and 1970s, is characterized by an emphatic aesthetic that foregrounds the material, the structure and the manufacturing process. Conceptually linked to Brutalism, this type of furniture transfers to the domestic sphere the principles of an architecture that defended constructive honesty and the absence of artifice. Brutalist pieces are usually made of solid materials and stand out for their forceful, often geometric or coarsely organic forms. Surfaces retain tool marks, visible carvings or rough textures, emphasizing the handcrafted character and rejecting the polished or industrialized finish.
