The pair of lamps "Moon Rock", conceived in 1969, is inscribed in a historical and cultural moment marked by the fascination for space and technological advances, coinciding with the arrival of the human being to the Moon during Apollo 11. Far from being a mere coincidence, this context directly influenced the aesthetics and concept of these pieces, which evoke fragments of a lunar landscape transferred to the domestic environment.Made of molded fiberglass and manually coated with textures that mimic the surface of the stone, the lamps have an organic and irregular appearance that contrasts with the usual industrial finishes of the time. This handcrafted treatment gives each piece a unique character, reinforcing the idea of a sculptural object beyond its luminous function.
André Cazenave developed his work in close collaboration with Atelier A, a fundamental collective in the promotion of experimental design in France during the 1960s and 1970s. Linked to currents that explored new materials and formal languages, Cazenave was especially interested in the expressive possibilities of fiberglass, a material that allowed the creation of free volumes and innovative textures.
