BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

ATE VAN APELDOORN (Netherlands, 20th century).
Safari" stool, 1960s.
Wood and leather.
Measurements: 45 x 45 x 45 cm (x2).
Set consisting of two "Safari" stools, designed in the 1960s. Both pieces clearly embody the principles of modern Dutch design, where structural simplicity and honesty of materials become protagonists. Conceived from a wooden structure combined with a leather seat, this model is reminiscent of traditional colonial camp chairs, reinterpreted with a contemporary look.
Its creator, Ate Van Apeldoorn, trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem, where he developed a sensitivity towards artisanal processes and direct work with materials. He began his career at the influential architectural firm Van den Broek & Bakema, linked to the modern movement, which profoundly marked his rational and constructive approach to design. Subsequently, he turned his attention to the creation of furniture, standing out for a production that combines tradition and innovation, with a special focus on solid wood and visible construction techniques.
