DESCRIPTION
VICO MAGISTRETTI (Italy, 1920-2006)
Set of four dining chairs, model "Golem", Italy, ca. 1969.
Lacquered wood and leather
In good vintage condition, with signs of use commensurate with age.
Measurements: 126 x 50 x 56 cm. 45 cm (seat height).
Set of four chairs model "Golem", designed by Vico Magistretti in the late 60's, representative of his refined and architectural formal language. The structure, resolved by vertical planes of lacquered wood, defines a sculptural silhouette dominated by the high, slightly curved backrest, which gives verticality and presence to the piece.
The contrast between the rigorous geometry of the structure and the softness of the leather upholstered seat creates a balance characteristic of Italian design of the period.
Trained at the Politecnico di Milano and close to Ernesto Nathan Rogers, Magistretti developed an outstanding career in industrial design since the 1950s. His work is present in important international museums, including the MoMA in New York, and was recognized with numerous awards, including several Compasso d'Oro.
