The "Dione" dressing table by Antonia Astori is a piece of very clean lines and architectural composition, conceived as a kind of elongated console table in metal and laminate that asymmetrically combines a lateral drawer unit with several drawers and, at the other end, a triptych mirror elevated on a metal structure. The whole is perceived more as an organized system of volumes than as a traditional dressing table, with a rational, geometric and functional aesthetic where structural clarity and the idea of furniture as an extension of domestic architecture predominate.
Antonia Astori is an Italian architect and designer prominent in the field of contemporary design, especially for her work in furniture and interior architecture. She trained as an architect at the Politecnico di Milano and developed much of her career in collaboration with her brother, the designer Enrico Astori, with whom she founded the Driade brand in 1968, a key Italian design firm that opted for innovative proposals closely linked to architecture. His work is characterized by a very architectural vision of design: he creates sober, structural and functional pieces of furniture, where the influence of space and construction is noticeable. Among his best-known designs are storage systems and modular furniture, designed more as elements of domestic architecture than as decorative objects.
