The "Cometa" lamp by Ettore Sottsass is a very sculptural 1970s design piece, defined by its verticality (about 2 meters high), formed by an undulating white plastic body with organic shapes reminiscent of a flame or a wave, supported by an internal metal structure and resting on a simple geometric base; It emits a diffuse white light along the body and a pinkish hue at the top, creating an almost ethereal effect, like a luminous column or a shooting star, closer to an experimental artistic work than to a conventional lamp.
Ettore Sottsass was an influential Italian architect and designer, considered one of the key figures of 20th century design, known for breaking with traditional functionalism and opting for a more emotional, symbolic and expressive approach; He worked for years for Olivetti designing iconic objects such as the Valentine typewriter, and in the 1980s he founded the Memphis group, with which he revolutionized postmodern design through the use of bright colors, bold geometric shapes and unconventional materials, advocating that objects should not only be useful, but also communicate, provoke and generate experiences.
