Interesting and unique coffee table made in Denmark in 1973, representative of the most expressive drift of Scandinavian design in the 1970s. The piece combines an aluminum structure with teak legs and a glass top, under which there is an iron composition signed by Knud Rasmussen.
This iron element does not act as an independent sculpture, but as an integral part of the design, conceived to be contemplated through the glass plane. Worked by means of welding techniques and direct manipulation of the metal, it presents organic, perforated and textured forms, characteristic of the Brutalist language.
The set stands out for its sophisticated play of hallmarks: the natural warmth of teak versus the lightness of aluminum, and both in dialogue with the plastic forcefulness of iron. The visible construction details, such as the rivets on the legs, reinforce the industrial and experimental character of the period.
This piece is especially attractive for its hybrid condition between furniture and artistic object, reflecting a moment in which Danish design explores new, more material and expressive ways, moving away from the classic functionalism of previous decades.
