This armchair is representative of the experimental and sculptural language that characterizes the early production of Philippe Starck. The piece is defined by a light structure of straight lines that contrasts with the curved and fluid development of the seat and back, generating a dynamic and unconventional silhouette.
The design stands out for its almost organic character, where the metal surfaces seem to unfold in space, evoking forms in movement. This combination of structural rigor and formal freedom places the work within the context of the radical design of the 1980s, where functionality and plastic expression converge in pieces with a strong identity.
Philippe Starck is one of the most influential designers on the contemporary scene. The son of an aeronautical engineer, this technical influence marked his early interest in form and innovation. He trained at the École Nissim de Camondo in Paris.
He began his career in the 1970s and achieved international recognition in the 1980s, collaborating with firms such as Driade, Alessi, Kartell, Vitra and Disform. In 1983 he was selected by President François Mitterrand to renovate the private apartments of the Elysée, consolidating his international projection.
