DESCRIPTION
Pair of side tables in bronze signed Delplace, probably Claude Delplace. France, late 20th century.
Cast bronze with gilt patina and circular glass tops.
Signed.
In excellent state of preservation.
Measurements: 75 x 44 x 44 cm.
Pair of side tables of great decorative presence, conceived as sculptural pieces in which the function is integrated in a refined naturalistic interpretation of bronze. Signed Delplace, probably Claude Delplace, they present an organic structure formed by intertwined trunks and branches, dotted with small plant motifs, which support with apparent lightness the circular glass tops.
The bronze work stands out for its irregular and vibrant modeling, far from any geometric rigidity. The surfaces retain a deliberately manual texture, which accentuates the artisanal character of the casting and gives each branch an almost organic expressiveness. The tripod bases, with sinuous forms and sculptural roots, prolong this same vegetal language and provide stability without detracting from the visual lightness of the whole. The golden patina enhances the reliefs of the metal and establishes an elegant contrast with the transparency of the glass.
These tables are part of the French tradition of artistic furniture from the second half of the 20th century, where the functional object acquires a fully sculptural dimension. Their language refers, by aesthetic affinity, to the naturalistic and poetic line developed by Diego Giacometti and other creators who made bronze an ideal material to merge art, design and decoration.
