DESCRIPTION
HENNING KOPPEL (Copenhagen, 1918-1981), for Louis Poulsen.
Pair of pendant lamps "Bubl", 1970s.
Brass and steel.
Good general condition, with patina on the brass. One of the lamps has a small dent in the brass.
Measurements: 13 cm. × 19 cm × 19 cm.
Pair of hanging lamps "Bubi", designed by Henning Koppel for Louis Poulsen in 1972. Its compact and rounded shape, close to a hat, a small star or an orbital object, reflects Koppel's ability to turn an everyday motif into a piece of great formal purity. The upper brass hides the lamp holder, while the lower diffuser softens the light and generates a warm, ambient illumination.
Trained as a sculptor, Koppel transferred to design a refined, organic sensibility that made his creations for Georg Jensen, Bing & Grøndahl, Holmegaard and Louis Poulsen famous. In these lamps, the volumetric simplicity and the contrast between the shine of the brass and the opaline surface condense his language very well: functional, elegant and with a strong sculptural presence.
