The Lounge Chair Model Tail 4, designed and manufactured by the German designer Heinz Witthoeft in 1959 for Witthoeft, Stuttgart. It is an iconic work of post-war production, exploring the aesthetic and functional potential of basic geometric forms. As Sophie Lovell explained in her interview for Frame magazine in 2012, Heinz Witthoeft defined himself as an "architecturtailer and stationer". He was one of those designers who dedicated his life to imagining a utopian urban ideal.
Known only to a small circle of specialists in his hometown of Stuttgart, Heinz Witthoeft is a German designer still little recognized despite his remarkable contributions to post-war design. Throughout his career, he devoted his work to exploring the relationship between form, space and materials. All his furniture was always produced entirely by hand and in small series. ne of his most outstanding architectural contributions in his hometown was the minimalist interior design of the Cube Restaurant, a spectacular fully glazed gastronomic space located on the upper floor of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart.
