The lamp model Kreta reflects perfectly the essence of Jacob E. Bang's design: clean lines, formal balance and a timeless aesthetic typical of Danish modernism.
Jacob Eiler Bang was one of the great references of Scandinavian design of the twentieth century and a pioneer of functionalism in Danish glass. Originally trained as an architect, he quickly turned his career towards the design of decorative arts, joining Holmegaard Glasværk in 1928, where he revolutionized design under the philosophy: "beautiful, resistant, functional and accessible".
His creations managed to unite elegance, innovation and popular production, eventually becoming true icons of European design. Among his most renowned works are the Viol and Primula series, the latter considered a revolutionary collection composed of more than 100 models in smoked topaz-colored glass. During the 1950s he continued to set trends with new lines of glass in shades of green, blue and opal white, establishing the foundations of modern Scandinavian glass.
Throughout his career he received important international recognition and won medals at the universal exhibitions in Barcelona (1929), Brussels (1935), Paris (1937) and New York (1939). His artistic legacy also continued through his sons Michael Bang and Joachim Bang, linked respectively to glass design and sculpture.
