DESCRIPTION
PIER LUIGI COLLI (Turin, 1895 - 1968).
Brutalist console table. 1960s.
Painted iron with textured finish and glass top.
Measurements: 78 x 140 x 45,5 cm.
Console table designed by Pier Luigi Colli, made of painted iron with textured finish and rectangular glass table top. The structure stands out for its architectural character, with stylized legs, straight crossbars and geometrically inspired cut-out sides.
The crackled and material surface of the support provides a robust and sculptural presence, close to the brutalist taste, but tinged with the elegance of mid-twentieth century Italian design. The piece combines structural strength and visual lightness: the glass allows us to appreciate the construction of the base, while the iron introduces rhythm, texture and decorative dimension.
Because of its scale and its balance between brutalist character and formal refinement, it is a piece of notable interest in Italian design of the 1960s.
Pier Luigi Colli was an Italian designer and entrepreneur linked to the historic Torinese firm Colli, active in the field of luxury furniture. In the 1920s he joined the family business, which in 1926 acquired the Martinotti manufacture. Under his direction, Colli modernized production without renouncing craftsmanship and the use of noble materials.
