DESCRIPTION
After GERRIT THOMAS RIETVELD (1888-1964).
Sculptural chair "Zig-Zag", ca. 1980.
Crafted Corten steel.
Sealed oxidized patina.
Inspired by the Zig-Zag model, designed by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld in 1934.
Sculptural chair handcrafted in Corten steel, inspired by the famous Zig-Zag chair designed by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld in 1934. The piece reinterprets the radical structural principle of the original model through a more emphatic material solution, replacing the visual lightness of wood with the expressive density of oxidized metal.
Its broken profile, built from continuous planes, generates a form of great visual power, in which seat, backrest and support are integrated into a single folded line. The use of Corten steel provides a particularly intense presence, marked by a surface with a mineral and industrial appearance. The sealed oxidation preserves the finish and reinforces the uniqueness of a piece that dialogues with modern tradition from a brutalist and contemporary sensibility.
Because of its craftsmanship, its formal strength and its link to one of the icons of design, this chair is a piece of marked personality, suitable both as a sculptural seat and as a collector's item.
