DESCRIPTION
TOBIA SCARPA (Venice, 1935) for B & B Italia, Mobilplast edition (Spain).
Two-seater sofa Coronado, 1966.
Upholstered in cognac leather.
Very good condition.
Measurements: 73 x 152 × 90 cm.
Coronado two seater sofa, designed by Tobia Scarpa in 1966 for B&B Italia. This edition was produced by Mobiplast in Spain, maintaining the enveloping and rounded character of the original model.
The piece stands out for its padded structure and cognac-colored leather upholstery, which reinforces the sensation of comfort and volume. The backrest and armrests are rounded and generous in shape, while the capitonné of the backrest introduces a characteristic visual rhythm, in contrast to the sobriety of the base and the general cleanliness of the design.
The Coronado model is part of the revival of the modern Italian sofa in the 1960s, when home furnishings began to explore new solutions for comfort and modularity.
Tobia Scarpa trained at the Faculty of Architecture in Venice, where he graduated in 1969, although he had already been collaborating with Afra Bianchin since the late 1950s, with whom he developed an outstanding joint career in architecture and design. Both worked for firms such as Flos, Cassina, B&B Italia and Gavina, among others, and carried out important projects in Europe and the United States. Scarpa has received numerous awards, including the Compasso d'Oro ADI, and his works are part of important international collections, such as that of the MoMA in New York.
