DESCRIPTION
Handcrafted cabinet; Spain, 1960.
Bamboo and melamine interior.
It has two folding doors and two drawers in the lower area.
Measurements: 185 x 105 x 45 cm.
This handcrafted cabinet is an excellent example of the bamboo furniture that became very popular in Spain during the 1950s and 1960s. The piece combines a light and resistant structure of bamboo canes with a geometric design of diagonally arranged slats, creating a herringbone or chevron motif that provides visual rhythm and a marked sense of verticality.
The composition stands out for the purity of its lines and the balance between functionality and ornamentation. The two hinged doors conceal an interior lined in melamine, a modern and hygienic material that reflects the incorporation of industrial solutions into the domestic furniture of the time. The four lower drawers expand its storage capacity, while the discreet handles maintain the formal coherence of the whole.
Stylistically, the piece is situated between late rationalism and the organic tendencies of mid-20th century design. Although its construction is handcrafted, it shares with modern design the taste for refined forms, the absence of superfluous decoration and honesty in the use of materials. Today, this type of cabinet is especially valued by collectors and interior designers due to the renewed interest in mid-century design, sustainable materials and traditional craftsmanship.
