DESCRIPTION
SØREN GEORG JENSEN for KUBUS MØBLER. Denmark, 1960s.
Rocking chair model 100.
Rosewood and textile upholstery.
Measurements: 77 x 64 x 70 cm.
Danish rocking chair with organic lines, designed by Søren Georg Jensen for the firm Kubus Møbler during the 1960s. The piece has a dark rosewood structure, with a polished finish, in which the continuous lateral skids stand out, conceived as a structural and sculptural element. The arms, with a curved profile and robust section, visually link with the oscillating base, generating an enveloping silhouette of great dynamism.
The sloping backrest and upholstered seat reinforce the comfortable character of the piece, in contrast to the formal sobriety of the structure. The design fully responds to the principles of Scandinavian furniture of the mid-20th century: functionality, formal purity, attention to ergonomics and the prominence of the natural qualities of wood.
Søren Georg Jensen was one of the leading figures of post-war Danish design. Son of the famous silversmith Georg Jensen, he developed his own career in the field of furniture and object design, participating in the modern language that made Denmark one of the international centers of design between the 1950s and 1970s. The rocking chair model 100 for Kubus Møbler is one of his most recognizable creations, appreciated for its balance between sculptural presence, comfort and craftsmanship.
