DESCRIPTION

BAROVIER & TOSO; Murano, Italy c. 1995-2005.
Pair of sconces model "Gotodario/3", Serie I Goti Luminosi.
Metal and Murano art glass.

This pair of sconces of three lights each belongs to the series I Goti Luminosi, one of the most emblematic collections of Barovier & Toso during the last decades of the twentieth century. Made of patinated iron and blown and polychrome mottled Murano art glass, these models reinterpret the traditional goti da fornasa, the characteristic glasses used by Venetian master glassmakers, transforming them into original lighting elements with a markedly sculptural character.
Each diffuser presents a unique chromatic composition, with combinations of blue, yellow, green, orange and white tones that highlight the expressive richness of hand-blown glass. The metallic structure of sinuous lines and organic development brings visual lightness to the whole, while the formal and chromatic diversity of the lampshades generates an attractive play of light, reflections and transparencies.
Stylistically, the I Goti Luminosi series is an excellent example of the contemporary reinterpretation of the Murano glassmaking tradition. In these pieces, Barovier & Toso fuses the centuries-old artisanal heritage of the island with the formal freedom and playful spirit of postmodern design, giving rise to luminaires that transcend their decorative function to become authentic works of applied art.
