DESCRIPTION
PERE COSP (Barcelona, 1907-2007).
Pair of ceiling lamps, 40-50s.
Iron, wood, polychrome and gilded elements.
Measurements: 95 x 47 x 47 cm each.
Pair of ceiling lamps especially emblematic of Pere Cosp's work. The pieces condense his most personal decorative universe: historicist references, ornamental fantasy, theatricality and an extraordinary freedom in the use of materials and crafts.
Each lamp is articulated by a suspended body of curved lines, arms for points of light and figurative motifs in the form of winged heads, which provide an almost scenographic presence. The dark blue spherical elements with golden stars introduce a symbolic note, while the false candles reinforce the ceremonial air of the ensemble. They are lamps of great singularity, conceived not only as lighting, but as authentic objects of interior design.
Pere Cosp was an interior designer from Barcelona. Trained at the Escuela de Artes y Bellos Oficios and in the family craft workshop, where he worked with trades such as gilding, molding and restoration, he soon oriented his activity towards interior design and integral decoration. Over the course of more than fifty years he transformed nearly a hundred private homes, designing spaces, furniture and decorative details. His work is characterized by an unfashionable personality, the creative use of humble materials and collaboration with different trades in metal, glass, mosaic, enamel, lacquer and marble.
