BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

PERE COSP (Barcelona, 1907-2007).
Bench, 40-50s.
Oak wood, marble and carved, polychrome and gilded zoomorphic supports.
Measurements: 47 x 122 x 43 cm.

Bench designed by Pere Cosp, made of wood and marble, with two lateral supports in the shape of fantastic animals carved, polychrome and gilded. The piece combines a sober horizontal structure with a base of strong sculptural character, in which the supports acquire an almost totemic presence.

The top integrates a reddish marble slab with small geometric inlays in shades of green and black, in dialogue with the wood and with the chromatic richness of the supports. These elements, of oriental and fantastic inspiration, give the whole a theatrical and decorative air, very close to Cosp's personal universe.

The work synthesizes several constants of his language: a taste for mixing materials, collaboration with artisanal crafts and a formal freedom deliberately outside the dominant trends. More than a simple bench, it is an interior design object with a marked personality, where function, ornament and sculpture coexist in balance.

Pere Cosp was an interior designer from Barcelona. Trained at the Escuela de Artes y Bellos Oficios and in the family craft workshop, where he worked with trades such as gilding, molding and restoration, he soon oriented his activity towards interior design and integral decoration. Over the course of more than fifty years he transformed nearly a hundred private homes, designing spaces, furniture and decorative details. His work is characterized by an unfashionable personality, the creative use of humble materials and collaboration with different trades in metal, glass, mosaic, enamel, lacquer and marble.
