BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

PERE COSP (Barcelona, 1907-2007).
Side table, 1940s-50s.
Rosewood, panels decorated with oriental motifs, metal details.
It shows signs of use, rubbing and general wear according to its age. The envelope shows a marked central darkened area, possibly caused by heat or alteration of the finish.
Measurements: 48 x 143 x 40 cm.

Side table designed by Pere Cosp, with three hinged front panels decorated with oriental motifs. The piece combines the structural sobriety of the low piece of furniture with a rich pictorial surface, in which birds, flowers and vegetal elements provide color, rhythm and a clearly ornamental character. The panels introduce an exotic and refined note that contrasts with the warmth of the wood and the metallic line of the base.

The design is placed between the side cabinet, the low sideboard and the coffee table, with an evocative aesthetic very much in keeping with the Cosp universe: personal, decorative and deliberately far removed from convention. A piece of great visual charm, versatile and scenographic, capable of adding character to a living room as well as to a hall or library space.

Pere Cosp was an interior designer from Barcelona. Trained at the Escuela de Artes y Bellos Oficios and in the family craft workshop, where he worked with trades such as gilding, molding and restoration, he soon oriented his activity towards interior design and integral decoration. Over the course of more than fifty years he transformed nearly a hundred private homes, designing spaces, furniture and decorative details. His work is characterized by an unfashionable personality, the creative use of humble materials and collaboration with different trades in metal, glass, mosaic, enamel, lacquer and marble.
