BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

GIANDOMENICO SANDRI (Italy, 1949) for Laboratorio del Marmo.
Dining table.
White Vicenza marble and walnut wood tabletop.
Signed.
Measurements: 70 x 140 x 140 cm.
Dining table designed by Giandomenico Sandri for the Italian firm Laboratorio del Marmo (LDM). The piece stands out for its imposing sculptural base, hand-carved from white Vicenza stone, which is a hallmark of its warmth and understated elegance compared to the wooden tabletop. Rooted in the Italian Modern style with Mid-Century influences, this piece reflects the philosophy of Laboratorio del Marmo, a firm founded in 1973 that specializes in translating the Italian sculptural tradition into furniture design. Their work is characterized by transforming the expressive power of Vincenza fossil stone into everyday objects, endowing them with a striking architectural presence and extraordinary artisanal value.
Giandomenico Sandri graduated from the “P. Selvatico” Art Institute in Padua and later specialized at the Scuola d’Arte dei Carmini in Venice, where he completed his teacher training. His first public work was created in 1974 for the City of Este. Starting that same year, he taught at the “A. Corradini” Art Institute in Este, where he led the wood sculpture course. At the same time, he devoted himself to the restoration of stone works for public institutions and private clients. In 1988, he began collaborating with the Laboratorio del Marmo (LDM), for which he created a collection that explores the delicate relationship between sculpture and the utilitarian object. Thanks to his collaboration with the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade, he alternated between creating sculptures and carrying out restoration projects in various cities around the world. Among the most notable are Beijing, Dubai, St. Petersburg, Accra, Hanoi, Buenos Aires, and Venice.
