The refinement of form and exploration of surface qualities were central aspects of the renewal of ceramics spearheaded by Angelina Alós. In this piece, the artist begins with a simple cylindrical structure, formed by the superimposition of two volumes and enriched by a glaze in earthy tones with metallic undertones. The geometric austerity thus is a hallmark of a surface that is marked by tactile richness—an approach that is consistent with an artist who understood ceramics as an autonomous artistic language and stood out precisely for her experimentation with forms, textures, and glazes.

The daughter of ceramicist Joan Baptista Alós, Angelina Alós spent much of her career in Esplugues de Llobregat, where she established her studio in 1951, and taught for decades at the Escola del Treball in Barcelona. In 1959, she was admitted to the Académie Internationale de la Céramique in Geneva, a recognition of her role in contemporary ceramics. Her work is represented at the Manolo Safont Tile Museum in Onda, which houses several of the artist’s pieces, and in the collection of the Museus d’Esplugues de Llobregat, where the Espai Baronda maintains a permanent exhibition dedicated to her work. The Esplugues International Ceramics Biennial has borne her name since 1998.
