DESCRIPTION
Vanity with mirror; Denmark, ca. 1970.
Teak wood and bronze handles.
Measurements: 153 x 96 x 45 cm.
This Danish dressing table, crafted from teak, features a horizontal design with clean lines and carefully balanced proportions, comprising wide front drawers and a small upper unit with two compartments. The bronze handles, discreet yet warm, introduce a refined metallic counterpoint to the rich color and natural grain of the wood. Its most distinctive feature is, without a doubt, the large mirror, conceived as a vertical sculptural piece. The back panel, with its organic and gently curved silhouette, rises above the structure like a sort of screen or monumental backrest, giving the piece a striking architectural presence. This design departs from the conventional vanity and transforms the piece into a design object, capable of serving as a focal point within a contemporary interior.
The piece embodies the spirit of Danish design from the 1960s and 1970s, when the Nordic cabinetmaking tradition began to engage with more expressive forms and a growing sensitivity toward sculpture and space. The combination of teak—an iconic material in Scandinavian furniture of that era—with the mirror’s organic geometry produces a particularly sophisticated and unconventional result.
