A ceiling lamp designed around a radial brass structure that supports blown-glass globes in an attractive combination of blue, green, white, and smoky tones, lending the design a distinctly sculptural character. The deliberate irregularity of the composition lends it dynamism and a certain sense of movement—with a distinct Space Age aesthetic, this “Sputnik” ceiling lamp translates the fascination with space exploration that dominated the collective imagination of the 1960s and 1970s into the language of design. Its radial structure evokes the silhouette of the famous Soviet satellite Sputnik 1, launched in 1957, and transforms the light fixture into a true sculptural piece.Crafted from brass, it features a central shaft from which multiple tubular arms extend, topped by blown-glass shades. The combination of the golden metal with the intense turquoise-blue tones of the shades enhances its futuristic look, while the expansive arrangement of the arms creates a dynamic, almost orbital composition.
The term “Space Age” precisely defines this aesthetic movement that emerged in the wake of the space race: an optimistic and utopian vision of the future that brought the shapes of rockets, satellites, and spaceships to furniture and lighting, along with a marked preference for new materials, glossy surfaces, and bold geometries.
