DESCRIPTION

OSCAR TORLASCO (Rome, 1934–2004) for Lumi Milano.
“567” table lamp, Italy, 1959.
Chrome-plated metal and black-lacquered lenticular shade.
Vintage piece in working condition.
It exhibits wear consistent with its age and use.
Measurements: 52 x 37 x 36 cm.
Model 567 table lamp, designed by Oscar Torlasco for Lumi Milano in 1959. A standout piece of mid-century Italian design from the late 1950s.
It features an elegant articulated chrome-plated metal frame with a circular base and a large, black-lacquered lenticular shade. The lower glass diffuser provides uniform lighting, while the articulation system allows the shade’s position to be adjusted and directed. The distinctive top handle completes its unique design. The combination of aerodynamic shapes, adjustable mechanisms, and metallic finishes is characteristic of the work of Oscar Torlasco, one of the key figures associated with the renewal of Italian lighting design in the mid-20th century. The Model 567 is a striking example of Lumi Milano’s production during this period.
Oscar Torlasco made his name in the 1950s and 1960s designing for various Italian lighting companies, such as Esperia, Stilux, and Stilkronen. His most recognizable creations—such as industrial-style lamps made of brass and lacquered metal with adjustable light beams—are produced by the Milan-based company Lumi (with which some of the biggest names in “Made in Italy,” from Gio Ponti to Nanda Vigo, have collaborated), while Fabbrica Apparecchi Illuminazione Greco S.p.A. produces the Genova 4053 streetlamp for Torlasco, for which he won the Compasso d'Oro in 1959.
