Spectacular “Alada” dining table, designed by Óscar Tusquets for Casas during the 1980s. Large in size, the piece features a wide glass tabletop with a sinuous profile, supported by a complex central structure of green-lacquered aluminum that radiates outward beneath the tabletop, formally evoking wings.
The transparency of the glass allows the base to take center stage, conceived not only as a structural element but as the true sculptural core of the composition. Its open geometry also frees the perimeter from supports, enhancing diners’ comfort and visually reinforcing the lightness of a table of monumental scale.

The “Alada” particularly well encapsulates Tusquets’ design language of the 1980s: a conception of design in which functionality, architecture, and formal expressiveness are integrated into a single object. In contrast to the orthogonal rigor of earlier functionalism, the piece introduces curves, dynamic tensions, and a clear sculptural intent, placing it squarely within the postmodern renewal of Spanish design.

Óscar Tusquets Blanca is one of the leading figures in contemporary Spanish architecture and design. An architect, designer, painter, and writer, since the late 1960s he has pursued a career characterized by the freedom with which he moves between disciplines and by his advocacy for design capable of combining utility, historical culture, and beauty. A co-founder of BD Barcelona Design, he has collaborated with some of Europe’s leading design firms, and his work is represented in major international collections. His furniture designs occupy a prominent place within the renewal of Spanish design in the final decades of the 20th century.
