"Adam and Eve".
Terracotta.
Measurements: 77 x 45 x 39 cm.
Sculpture in round bulk made in terracotta, belonging to the French school of the early twentieth century. It represents a couple of characters, one feminine and the other masculine, identifying themselves as Adam and Eve. It is necessary to stop in the attitudes of both, while she leans on him covering her face, he keeps his gaze fixed, although concentrated, totally lost, the two join their hands interlacing their fingers. The treatment of the whole set stands out, since with a totally naturalistic language the artist manages to capture the psychological capture with which he manages to humanize the figures.
The myth of creation places Adam and Eve as the first men to be on Earth. According to the different religions that represent them, the couple was created by God, Yahweh or Allah, when they arrived on the sixth day of the creation of the world. Adam was the first to appear, in the image and likeness of God. God, seeing only the man, from his rib gave birth to Eve. From this couple many children were born, although only the first three were given names: Cain, Abel and Seth. According to Bible accounts, God created the world in seven days. He also created Eden, or Paradise. In this paradise inhabited all the animals of the planet and the plants, in addition to Adam and Eve. After their expulsion from paradise, Adam and Eve lived together in the world of men, although the texts do not continue to recount their lives and focus on the lives of their children, the first descendants of the world. It has usually been art, especially painting, that has brought the creation myth to the present day, with numerous pictorial representations of the moment when the couple committed the sin for which God condemned them.
