Saint Francis Xavier (Castillo de Javier, 1506 - Sanchón, China, 1552), priest, religious and missionary of the Society of Jesus who stood out for his travels to India and East Asia. In the work he is represented in one of those missions he carried out, although those characters do not appear dressed in Chinese fashion, but more characterized as American Indians, following the painter's idea (and of the time) of exotic appearance and the examples he would know of "pagan" people.
